Hello there! Did you miss me? I believe the last time we were together I was off in my secure, undisclosed location (also known as Florida) to escape D.C. for a bit and to try to re-claim a sense of control over my ridiculous life. So, I am sure you all are dying to know … did it work?
Well, yes and no.
The time away was definitely good for me — I cleared my head, prepared to start the next phase of my life, enjoyed the ocean views. However, simply changing locations does not mean that problems are left behind. Sadly, they travelled with me and I continued my type-A, ADD, can’t-sit-still-and-relax lifestyle. Even upon returning home, my descent into chaos picked up right where it had left off.
So I am dealing with this in the only way I know how: micromanaging every aspect of my life. Starting today.
Yes, I know it’s ridiculous to schedule things such as “read magazine” and “eat lunch”, but lately I have done neither. Exercise, cooking, making time for friends? Time to get them on the calendar. I’ve completely organized my professional life (finally!), prioritized deliverables, noted deadlines, blocked “working time”. I am unapologetically setting boundaries, personal and professional.
Obviously all of this is a ridiculous attempt to try to gain a sense of consistency, normalcy, routine. Right now my only consistency is inconsistency – and it is exhausting (note to self: schedule sleep). There are 168 hours in the week … time to try to make sense of them.
