I quit my job; today is my last day. My life is about to change! No, I didn’t win the lottery (hopefully that will be a future post) but I decided to give the independent contracting thing a go.
So in other words, as of tomorrow I am unemployed. Yikes!
As I wrote in “One Giant Leap“, after countless months (years?) of trying to find balance and failing, I realized that I had to take control — and the power to make a change was in my hands and my hands only. So I turned in my notice (I gave more than 30 days) and began to wind down my projects and client work. After more than three years at my current company, it’s a bit surreal to be packing everything up – especially given the uncertainty of what’s next.
While I am not being naïve, I am ridiculously optimistic about what lies ahead. I certainly know that there will be challenges and peaks and valleys to deal with, but at the end of the day I believe that everything will work out.
Luckily, I have a project lined up that will keep me working through the month – being as busy as I have been, there just hasn’t been time to set up a proper “business” and start reaching out to my professional network to let them know about my new status. But the LLC has been established; my tax ID is secured; a domain name has been purchased.
I’m ready to go. The next chapter begins tomorrow.
AWESOME! congrats!
You are courageous. Period.
Congratulations and good luck!
Excellent! Congratulations on The Beginning of something fabulous, my friend!
Congratulations, Laura. I can’t wait to see how things go for you in your new life!
Anne
Congratulations! I’ve been independent now for several years and wouldn’t go back. Once you get your pace going and get over the initial anxiety you’ll no doubt love it just as much. Give me a shout if you ever need anything and heck, give me a shout with your specialties. You never know when a client of mine might need your services. 🙂
Thanks Suzanne! I definitely will once I get everything together — and back at you! We’ll conquer the east cost 🙂
Congratulations Laura! I know you will do great!!
