Big

So yeah yeah yeah, I’m a few days behind on the Photo101 challenge and am totally out of synch with the topics. What can I say, I’m a creative type. Orderly fashion is for boring people.

Anyway, back to the photography topics I am trudging my way through. The theme: Big. The photo: The Air Force Memorial in Arlington, Va. Today was actually the first time I’ve been there, even though I drive by the memorial regularly. I was hoping to capture the size of the structures, which was quite difficult with my lens and the area, I simply couldn’t find a good place to put myself that would help me illustrate the magnitude of the memorial. Laying on my back and shooting up didn’t really do much for me either. So, here is my attempt to communicate “big”. At first I was annoyed with the guy checking his phone but now I’m glad he was there, I think it’s a nice comparison of size.

Connect

So yes, as was to be expected, I missed a few days of the Photography 101 project as life is insane, as per usual. In addition, the theme on Thursday was Bliss. That same day, D.C. got eight inches of snow and I wanted to stab someone. So yeah … I wasn’t really in a place to capture bliss on film that day. Friday’s theme was Solitude, and I’ll definitely get back to that at some point. But I digress.

Anyway, here I am trying to get back in the saddle. I kind of copped out of today’s theme, which is Connect. I am hoping to find other subjects to photograph than my animals for this project (you know, actually get outside and capture real life), but they just had to do for today. And they’re so damn cute, so why not?

My two cats and a dog have a crazy interspecies love connection. They are amazing, and I am so lucky they get along so well and show each other so much love. Here is my (lazy-ass) interpretation of Connect.

Street

Day 2 of the Photography 101 challenge, and today’s theme is “Street”. I haven’t spent any time experimenting with time-lapse / nighttime photography and it’s definitely something that I would like to play with more. Sadly, I only had about 10 minutes to get this picture given my schedule today, and taking it in the evening in D.C. meant I was almost run over about 10 times, so it was certainly not the best shooting environment. One of these days I’ll plan better to get some proper late night shots … looking at this (completely untouched) photo I would like to have a longer shutter speed so you can get a better feel for the movements of the cars. Of course, late night there may not be many cars, but what are you going to do.

So, I present, Street. Maryland Avenue NE, Washington, D.C., looking southwest towards the Capitol.

p.s. I took this photo from right outside my apartment building, so technically it could apply to Home too.
