Friendship

For whatever reason, the meaning of “friendship” has been on my mind lately – how strange it is that I can reconnect with someone after 15 years as though we never lost a moment, where at the same time a close friendship that lasted many years can slowly fizzle out. I am fortunate to have more examples of the former rather than the latter, although it never ceases to amaze me that I am no longer in touch with people whose weddings I was in … while I consider some of my closest friends today people I knew “back in the day”, and for one reason or another went more than 10 years without speaking to (thank you, social networking). Vacation … Life After Normal Style

I have always thought that there was something ridiculous or even ironic about the sentiment of “vacation”. Dictionary.com defines vacation as:

a period of suspension of work, study, or other activity, usually used for rest, recreation, or travel; recess or holiday

Fair enough. However, I usually find the periods immediately before and after the actual days of “vacation” as ridiculously stressful, enough to almost completely negate any positive benefits of the time away. Continue reading

Dear Body:

Hey there, how’s it going? So listen, I know we’ve been through a lot together over the years: some good (thanks for the flexibility!), some bad (boo, defective sinuses and ridiculous allergies), and some ugly (hello, adolescence). There have been times that I have failed you — and also times when you failed me. But here we are, approaching the new adventures known as “middle age,” and all the joys that accompany it. Spring Cleaning

Every two weeks, our house cleaning service comes over and spends about an hour vacuuming, dusting and scrubbing our mess of an apartment. I know that this service is somewhat of a luxury, but given our lack of free time I think it is money well spent. Besides, who wants to scrub toilets? Continue reading
